Tue 1st Apr 2008
Bluebell Films is delighted to release three films by acclaimed French New Wave
filmmaker, Jacques Rivette, contemporary of luminaries such as Francois Truffaut
and Jean-Luc Godard. Rivette’s three masterpieces Gang Of Four, Love On The
Ground and Wuthering Heights have all been newly restored and re-mastered and will
be released on DVD for the first time anywhere in the world as directors’ cut versions on
25 February 2008.
Berlin Film Festival award winning film Gang Of Four (aka La
Bande Des Quatre) is one of Rivette’s best-loved works. Starring a
strong female central cast the film tells the story of four young
actresses hand-picked to study the Marivaux’s Double Infidelities
under famed director Constance.
Featuring frequent Rivette collaborator Bulle Ogier ( Celine And Julie
Go Boating) as Constance and Benoit Regent, alongside Fejria Deliba, Bernadette
Giraud, Ines de Medeiros and Nathalie Richard as the four talented actresses. Before
long the women begin to let the text seep into and influence their off-stage lives in their
shared apartment leading to suspense and sexual intrigue. Gripping and dynamic
throughout, The Gang Of Four is a classic and invigorating drama.

Originally released in 1984 under the French title L’Amour Par
Terre, Love On The Ground (aka L’Amour Par Terre) is an
examination of the ongoing film versus theatre debate. Starring
cinema icons Jane Birkin (Blow Up) and Geraldine Chaplin (Talk
To Her) as two actresses in the audience of a private performance.
Jean-Pierre Kalfon (The Dreamers) plays troubled director Clement
and Andre Dussollier (Amelie) as mysterious magician Paul who manages to affect the
play and its actors in unforeseen ways. Love On The Ground is one of Rivette’s most
strange and compelling films, a must for fans of avant-garde films.

passionate and vengeful Heathcliff is now Roche (Lucas Belvaux –
Madame Bovary) and Cathy becomes Catherine (Fabienne Babe –
De SueurEt Du Sang), parts of the tragic tale have been streamlined
and updated with Rivette’s own personal touch.
