Synopsis
Ville Alfa (Aki Kaurismaki), an overly intellectualising hyper-manic young drifter, cannot stop telling lies. His fabrications allow him to seduce girls and borrow seemingly endless amounts of money from friends, family and complete strangers. When Ville Alfa lies about the death of his brother this gets him into hot water. Can he curb his compulsion for pathological lying? The “Liar” and the short “Jackpot 2”, the first films from writer Aki Kaurismaki and director Mika Kaurismaki, brim with the raw talent and brilliance that later was paid off in Aki’s “Lenningrad Cowboys go America” and Mika’s “Zombie and the Ghost train.”
