Synopsis
News photographer Jim de Booy (Thijs Romer) happens to be snapping pictures of a TV starlet outside a radio station where right wing politician, Pim Fortuyn, is shot dead. He inadvertently captures the killer in the background of his photos and starts to investigate soon crossing paths with Ayse (Tara Elders), a double-dealing Turkish girl who has been strong-armed into working with some Dutch secret services. While Jim investigates there is a meeting between Dutch powerbrokers and American businessmen to manipulate the government into voting for the Joint Strike Fighter, an expensive military plane Fortuyn opposed. By replacing him with a puppet figure, they hope to succeed in swinging the vote in favor of American plans. Intercut with real documentary footage, Van Gogh makes a perceptive and hard hitting political thriller in the style Costa Gavras or “All the Presidents men”. This is the film van Gogh was editing when he was murdered by fundamentalists.
